"Fred Jonny Berg is a major musical discovery. It would be necessary to rewind to the 1940s and Malcolm Arnold to find an emerging composer of such exceeding promise. His compositions are confidently tonal, fluently melodious and possessed of virtually supernatural penetrative power. The flute works receive achingly beautiful, indeed enchanting, performances from Emily Beynon and the Philharmonia under Vladimir Ashkenazy (Berg conducts the other pieces). This set is recommended for any collector seeking the refined side of contemporary music."

It contains eight electro acoustic works, and the cut that carries the album title, was originally commissioned for Festspillene in Bergen in 1997.
In 2000, the chamber music related album, SEASONS OF LIFE was released. Flute Sonata no.1 op.40, Violin Sonata no.1 op.50 and Waltz of the Queen op.4a are three of the present works. On this album, the flutist Tom Ottar Andreassen, the violinist Håvard Daae Rognli and the pianist Wolfgang Plagge contribute.
Flute Sonata no.1 op.40, one of the works presented on this album, was warmly received. Glenn Franco, Gods of Music, credits the piece with a top score: - Fred Jonny Berg has given the world yet another timeless classic with Flute Sonata no.1 op.40 and should be heralded for his tremendous effort and choice of musicians for this grand masterpiece. I can find no fault of any kind with this wonderful piece, it is truly perfect and there is only one score for perfection.
The album ABOUT MY GRANDFATHER, was released in October 2002. The music is performed by the Norwegian Radio Orchestra under the supervision of Ari Rasilainen. Joachim Knoph is the soloist on two of the Piano Concertos. This recording also includes two symphonic poems. In 2002, Pori Sinfonietta and Ari Rasilainen performed Heart from Randi op.27 in Finland as an act of respect in memoriam September 11, and the city of New York. The same work was performed by Philharmonia Orchestra and Vladimir Ashkenazy in London in 2009.
The works present on ABOUT MY GRANDFATHER were also used in the music- and fiction movie MONTAGNA CON FORZA, which Berg directed.
On the latest album, GRAMMY nominated FLUTE MYSTERY, Berg returns to the symphonic poem and concerto genres. On this album, Emily & Catherine Beynon are the soloists on flute & harp, with Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy. Get insight via an interview with NaxosBLOG
